Estimate pavers, bedding sand and edging for your patio or drive. Offline.
Paver Calculator helps you work out, in seconds, how many pavers your patio, walkway or driveway needs — plus the bedding sand, the joint sand and the run of edge restraint that go with them. Enter the area and your paver size and read the order quantity straight away. It works completely offline and nothing you enter ever leaves your phone. HOW IT WORKS The app uses the standard hardscaping method, in feet and inches: 1. It measures the paved area from the length and width you enter, or takes an area you type in directly. 2. Each paver, once set, takes up a little more room than its own size because of the sand joint along two of its sides. The effective footprint is (paver length + joint) by (paver width + joint), in inches. 3. Dividing 144 square inches by that footprint gives the pavers needed per square foot, which is multiplied by the paved area for the base count. 4. A wastage allowance you choose is added on top for cuts and breakage, and the result is rounded up to whole pavers. Running bond needs about 5 percent; herringbone or any diagonal layout needs 10 to 15 percent, because every course ends in an angled cut. 5. Bedding sand comes from the area and the bedding depth, reported in cubic feet, cubic yards and tons. Joint sand comes from the share of the surface that is joint, filled to the paver thickness, reported in pounds and 50 lb bags. Edge restraint comes from the perimeter, in linear feet, with spikes at one per foot. With a common 8 x 4 in paver and a 1/8 in joint that works out at about 4.3 pavers per square foot. A 20 by 15 ft patio — 300 sq ft — needs 1,289 pavers, or 1,418 with a 10 percent allowance, on 0.93 cubic yards of bedding sand, with about 6 bags of joint sand and 70 feet of edge restraint. WHAT YOU CAN DO - Enter length and width, or switch to an area and edge run you already know - Set your own paver length, width, joint and thickness, or keep the standard defaults - Choose a bedding depth and a wastage allowance from 0 to 30 percent with a slider - See the pavers per square foot, the paved area, the sand and the edging side by side - Open Details for a full step-by-step breakdown, the sand and edge figures, and a coverage table for common paver sizes - Learn the simple maths behind the numbers in plain language BUILT FOR CLARITY A warm courtyard-inspired design puts the big number first, with the supporting figures right beside it. Light and dark themes, a tiny download, no clutter and no account required. AN ESTIMATE, NOT A QUANTITY SURVEY This is a simplified educational tool for a rectangular paved area. It does not design or size the compacted stone base under the pavers, and it does not check drainage, falls or load. Real projects vary with the laying pattern, curves and borders, soldier courses, cuts and your contractor's practice, and edges that butt a house wall or a slab need no restraint. Always confirm the final quantities with your supplier or contractor before ordering. This app is for general information and education only and is not professional construction advice. PRIVACY The app collects no personal data and works fully offline. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which may use an advertising identifier as described in Google's policies.
