• Search results can be narrowed to any dates: tap the calendar beside Today to pick a range • A big search now shows which months its matches fall in, with a count for each. Tap a month to see only those • The number of matches is exact, however many there are
Find any screenshot by the text inside it. Private, and read on your phone.
You took a screenshot of it. Now you can't find it. gyotaku reads the text in every screenshot on your phone and makes it searchable. Type a few letters of anything you remember seeing, such as a name, an order number, part of an address or a wifi password, and the matching screenshots appear with the words you searched for lit up. WHAT IT DOES • Searches by the text inside your screenshots, not by file name or date. • Finds partial words. "deliv" finds "Delivery" and "Out for delivery". • Lights up the matching lines and dims the rest, so you see the match first. • Copies text out of a screenshot: one line, or all of it. • Filters by Today, Yesterday, This week and This month. • Lets you choose which folders are read. Screenshot folders are on to begin with. • Shares a screenshot straight from the results. BANGLA AND HINDI Turn on Read Bengali or Read Devanagari in settings and gyotaku also reads Bangla, Assamese, Hindi, Marathi and Nepali text. These readers are optional, download once (about 30 to 80 MB), and are slower than the built in one: a few seconds for each screenshot, so a large library takes hours. Your screenshots are searchable by their other text while that runs. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Your screenshots are read on your phone. They are never uploaded. • No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. • The only time gyotaku uses the internet is to download a reader you turn on. • It only reads your images. It never changes, moves or deletes them. READS IN THE BACKGROUND Reading carries on after you leave the app, with its progress in a notification. Pause it whenever you like, from the notification or from the app, and resume later. OPEN SOURCE gyotaku is free and open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. This is an unofficial community app for Android, built on the gyotaku desktop project created by Yash Bavadiya and maintained separately from it. The source code is public. GOOD TO KNOW • gyotaku does not take screenshots. It reads the ones your phone already saves. • Text recognition is not perfect. Small, stylised or low contrast text can be misread. • The first read of a large library takes a few minutes. Bangla and Hindi take much longer. About the name: gyotaku is a Japanese way of recording a catch by inking a fish and pressing it onto paper. While you search, your screenshots are inked dark and only the words you searched for stay lit.
