downloaded the app and the next day it tried to debit $8.99 out of my account. fortunately I don't keep any funds on that card

We apologise for any confusion. Tab Splitter Pro cannot automatically debit money from your card in the background. The app includes a Pro subscription and a payment for developer support; any payment can only be made via Google Play once you have confirmed the purchase screen.
