Keeper — Private Notes

Keeper is a note-taking app designed so that notes belong to you, not the server. WORKS OFFLINE Notes are saved on your device before any network operation. You can create, edit, search, and delete them completely offline—on the subway, on a plane, or in the countryside. Accumulated edits are automatically saved when the connection returns, ensuring nothing gets lost along the way. ON-DEVICE ENCRYPTION Encryption can be enabled for a single note or for all new ones at once. With an encrypted note, the server stores only the ciphertext: it can't read the title, text, checklist items, labels, or color. The key is generated on your device and protected by Android's keystore—if you have the StrongBox hardware module. A regular private note is stored publicly on the server and protected by account access. The mode is visible directly in the editor as a line below the title. A CLEAR EDITOR The markup is shown as typeface, not symbols: bold is bold, the heading is a large line, and the list item is a clickable check mark. Those who need actual markers can use the Markdown mode, which is also needed by screen reader. Below the text is a markup panel: bold, italic, monospaced, list, numbered list, item with check mark. A checklist is not a separate type of note, but rather a line markup: you can start a to-do list in the middle of the text by typing "[]". CATEGORIES INSTEAD OF FOLDERS A note can be placed in several categories at once. Tabs are rearranged, a note can be dragged to a tab with a finger, and the order of the list is also up to you. There are twenty icons to choose from. The desired one is pinned to the top of the list. SYNCHRONIZATION BETWEEN YOUR DEVICES Edits from two devices are merged line by line, just like in version control systems. You'll only be asked where you actually have to make a choice. A new device connects by scanning a code from an already trusted one or by manually entering the same code; after connecting, both sides display a verification string. LOGIN PROTECTION PIN code, or if the device supports it, fingerprint or face recognition. The lock closes the entrance to the app and reopens after minimizing. BACKUP COPY The entire database is saved in a single file, using the system save dialog: the file will be saved wherever you specify. You can save a copy to Yandex Disk, in the application folder: the app doesn't ask for permission to access your other files, and the Disk token remains on the device. The format is the same as the web version: a copy from a phone opens in a browser, and vice versa. SEARCH Full-text, across the entire database, on the device itself—and therefore works offline and doesn't tell the server what you're searching for.
