New Tools tab: light meter, white balance checker and today's golden hour. Track your cameras' shutter count over time, and share a shutter count certificate when buying or selling.
Check your camera's shutter count free: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Lumix.
Check the shutter count of your DSLR or mirrorless camera in seconds. Pick one original photo and Shutter Count reads the hidden data your camera writes into every shot, then shows the true number of shutter actuations. Made by the team behind ShutterCounters.com. Free, with no account or signup. WHAT IS SHUTTER COUNT? Shutter count is the number of times a camera's mechanical shutter has fired. It works like the odometer of a car: it is the standard way to judge how much a used camera has really been used, and it has a direct effect on resale value. HOW DO I CHECK MY CAMERA'S SHUTTER COUNT? 1. Take a photo with the camera you want to check. 2. Copy the original JPEG or RAW file to your phone. 3. Open Shutter Count, tap Select photo and start the analysis. You get the shutter count, the detected camera model, and a simple reading of how used the camera is. SUPPORTED CAMERAS AND FILES • Canon – JPEG, CR2, CR3 • Nikon – JPEG, NEF • Sony – JPEG, ARW • Fujifilm – JPEG, RAF • Panasonic Lumix – JPEG, RW2 • DNG files are also accepted Nikon photos are read directly on your phone and are never uploaded. Other brands are sent to our server so their maker notes can be decoded. Not every camera records its shutter count in its photos. The app tells you honestly when a model cannot be read, and the Cameras tab lists known limitations for popular bodies such as the Canon EOS R, 5D Mark IV and 6D Mark II. WHAT YOU GET • Shutter count report – total actuations with a wear gauge against the camera's rated shutter life • Plain-language verdict – like new, lightly used, moderate, heavily used or past its rating • Camera guides – commonly cited shutter life ratings and support status by model • Brand guides – tips and answers for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and Panasonic • Learn – articles on what shutter count means, buying a used camera and looking after your gear • History – every camera you have checked, saved on your device so you can compare bodies • Shutter count certificate – a clean, shareable image of your result to add to a sale listing or send to a buyer • Share – send your result to a buyer or seller in one tap • Photo tools – light meter (EV, lux and shutter speed), white balance checker and today's golden and blue hours • My cameras – track your shutter count over time with shots per month and remaining rated life • Light and dark themes WHO IS IT FOR? • Buying a used camera – verify the seller's claim before you pay • Selling your camera – show real proof of low usage • Photographers – know when your shutter is getting close to its rated life FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is a high shutter count bad? Not on its own. Shutter ratings are averages: roughly 50,000 actuations for entry-level bodies, 150,000 for enthusiast bodies and 400,000 or more for professional bodies. Many cameras keep working well beyond their rating. Why does the app say "Shutter count not found"? Usually the photo was edited, exported or sent through a chat app, which removes the hidden data. Use the original file straight from the memory card. Some camera models never record the count at all. Does it work for phone photos? No. Phones do not use a mechanical shutter, so they have no shutter count. Can the shutter count be reset? Not from the camera menu. It normally changes only when a service centre replaces the shutter unit or main board. Is it free? Yes. The app is free and supported by ads. You always see your camera and its condition; a short optional ad reveals the exact count and certificate. Shutter Count is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm or Panasonic.
