Huge potential, but sometimes a little awkward. I love all the bird info and how the checklists are etc, but when I record a sighting I don't want to create a custom location with a name etc, I just want it to know where I am and auto select that as the place. IDing by photo is slow and inaccurate for me, whereas by audio on the Merlin app is super quick and surprisingly accurate. When I see a bird I also want to straight away ID it, so I need the top of the opening page of the app as: "ID NOW"

overall it works well, needs some tweaks to functionality (search parameters etc). definitely needs fixes such as ticking the box to keep location private yet it still shows up on the map as a user location and also not being able to delete or change the name of that custom location.

Thanks for flagging the privacy one, we are making it clear privacy status. The fix is about to go out, along with being able to rename and delete custom locations. Search parameters have already been tweaked in the latest version. Appreciate you being specific, it made this quick to pin down.

As a new birder, I’m loving the Wingmate app! It shows birds in my area with helpful details like rarity and whether they’re native, endangered, or introduced, which makes learning so easy and exciting. The streaks, leaderboard, adding friends, trip badges, and avatars make it fun and interactive. I also love that when you find a bird, you get photos, sounds, and fun facts all in one place. The AI bird identification is super helpful too. Highly recommend for anyone getting into birding!

I've been using the app for a while now, and I find it generally easy and enjoyable to use. I love the abundance of images attached for each bird as well as ample information to help with identification. Its nice aesthetic and constant refinement (I'm really excited for the 'top locations' feature) sets it apart from competing apps! I do however wish you were allowed to attach unlimited amounts of images, and have access to the app offline, without a paid premium subscription.

Good news, top locations is live in the latest update. Glad the images and ID info are pulling their weight. On Plus, photo storage and offline data are the two things that genuinely cost us to run, so that's what sits behind the subscription and keeps a small team building :)

Little clunky and slow at times but definitely one of my favourite logging apps. I think the feature that would really make it for me is ability to set my own photos as the display when looking through your bird list. Having to open up individual bird pages to see your best photos is frustrating and I think the feature would make your life list so much more personalised and fun!

Good information and resources but poorly optimised and runs too slowly to be worth using regularly. A good catalogue of bird call recordings, however many issues with playing the files (Often leading to missed opportunities). This being said it has helped me identify a number of species but still falls short of other birding resources. Has potential but currently lacks the reliability and needs refining.

Love hearing that. Getting kids outside and curious about birds is exactly what we hoped for. The XP seem to keep them hunting, and you can also log a trip together and compare what everyone spotted.

AI identification is not accurate, needs to be able to zoom in. I like the photo save feature, but I haven't figured out how to save an accurate sighting location as it seems you can only choose from the nearest hotspot.

Thanks, really useful. Quick tip: crop in tight on the bird before running the ID, it lifts accuracy a lot. We should be prompting that, and we're fixing it. Locations are sorted too, you can now add a custom spot or browse community ones.

overall good app, great use of logging bird sightings. My main issue is the AI, I compared it to "Birda" and the "Birda" AI is better. But the layout of this app I enjoy more
