Mix six noises into your perfect sleep cocktail
Sleepy Cocktail — noise for sleep and rest. Blend six noises into your own "cocktail", set the timer and drift off. Why noise helps What keeps you awake is often not how loud things are but how sudden: a door slams, a car goes by, voices start up behind the wall. A steady noise fills the silence, and against it those sounds stand out less and bother you less. Who it may help - People who sleep somewhere noisy: by a road, in a dorm, on a train, next to someone who snores. - People who find it hard to fall asleep in total silence, when thoughts keep creeping in. - Parents of babies: steady noise helps many little ones settle and fall asleep. Pediatricians advise keeping the phone as far from the crib as possible, keeping the volume low and switching the noise off once the baby is asleep — that is what the timer is for. - People with ringing in the ears (tinnitus): a soft background makes the ringing less noticeable, and sound therapy is part of the clinical guidelines for tinnitus. An ENT doctor or an audiologist can help you find the right approach. - People who work or study around conversation: noise helps shut out voices and focus. Noise is not a cure. It helps you sleep when the sounds around you get in the way, but there is no convincing evidence yet that it resolves insomnia. If your sleep has been disrupted for weeks, see a doctor. And protect your hearing: keep the volume low, especially with headphones. The app's six noises - White — bright and hissy, like a radio between stations. Good at masking voices and sharp sounds. - Pink — softer than white, like steady rain. A good place to start. - Brown — a deep, low rumble, like a distant waterfall or an airplane cabin. - Surf — waves roll in and out in a living, uneven rhythm. - Grey — tuned to the ear, so lows, mids and highs sound equally loud. Even and calm. - Green — the mid frequencies only: a soft background with no rumble and no hiss. Your own cocktail Each noise has its own volume slider and its own switch. Surf over brown, pink on its own or all six at once — mix by ear. The app remembers your mix. Sleep timer From half an hour to ten hours, in half-hour steps. When time is up, the noise fades out gently. Without the timer it plays until you turn it off. Stays out of your way while you sleep - The sound fades in gently when it starts and fades out gently when it stops. - It keeps playing with the screen off and while you use another app. - It goes quiet during a call and picks up again afterwards. - It stops if you unplug your headphones, so the noise never suddenly comes out of the speaker. Nothing extra - No ads. - No sign-up. - Works offline: the sound is generated on your phone, not downloaded. That keeps the app to a few megabytes, and the noise never repeats in a loop. - Two dark themes, so the screen won't dazzle you at night. You can write to the developer at kalugaman@gmail.com.
