Version 0.9.6 • Tablets: review side panel uses the full height; count, modes and drop table stay in view • Small photos (plates cut from a multi-plate photo) now fill the screen • Charts, dialogs and long pages fit tablet and desktop screens • Settings open taller on tablets; larger photo when calibrating zones
Count bacterial colonies (CFU) on agar plates with your phone camera.
Colony Counter counts bacterial and fungal colonies on agar plates from a photo, and turns plate counts into CFU/mL, CFU/g or CFU/100 mL. Built for microbiology research and teaching labs. START IN A MINUTE • Built-in example plates, samples and a time-kill comparison: try every feature before you count your own plates, then remove them with one tap. • A step-by-step picture manual for every feature, in Thai and English (menu → User manual). HOW IT WORKS • Photograph a plate. A guide circle and live checks for level, focus and glare help you take a good photo. • The app finds the dish and counts the colonies automatically, splitting touching colonies and estimating clusters. • Check the count on the photo: switch to Edit, tap to remove or add a colony, long-press to set a cluster size. Undo any change. RESULTS YOU CAN USE • CFU/mL from a dilution series, with the FDA BAM (25–250), ISO 7218 (10–300) or 30–300 counting rules. • Replicates: mean ± SD, CV and log10 CFU/mL ± SD. • Solid samples in CFU/g (e.g. 25 g in 225 mL) and membrane filters in CFU/100 mL. • Drop plates (Miles–Misra) in a ring or rows: empty and confluent drops are found, with a drop table, Poisson checks and a 95 % interval. • Blue/white and two-colour colony counts. • Compare conditions: log reduction, % kill and time-kill or growth charts. MORE PLATE TYPES • 60, 90, 100 and 150 mm dishes, square plates and 47 mm gridded membrane filters. • Several plates in one photo. • Time-lapse: photograph the same plate over time to see when colonies appear and how fast they grow. • Petrifilm® dry films: AC, EC (E. coli and coliforms), CC, EB and YM, with gas bubbles, yellow zones and estimates from the grid squares. INHIBITION ZONES (BETA) • Disk and agar-well diffusion: the app finds each disk or well and measures its zone diameter, in whole mm on screen and 0.1 mm in the CSV. • Check each zone: drag its edge, change it by 1 mm, mark "no zone", or add a disk the app missed. • Label the test items once and reuse the list; mean ± SD per item over replicate plates, as a table and a chart. • Calibrate against your own calliper or ruler on a used plate: the app shows how closely it agrees with you, and reminds you to check again. • Diameters only: no susceptible / intermediate / resistant interpretation. Beta: not yet checked against calliper readings on real plates. TRUST THE COUNT • "Check this count" warnings for crowded plates, touching or faint colonies. • Accuracy tracking: check a plate colony by colony now and then, and see how accurate the app is on your own plates. RECORDS AND EXPORT • Sample plans, experiment details (strain, medium, batch, incubation, operator, tags) and search. • Print QR plate labels (A4, 3 × 8 labels of 70 × 37 mm) and scan them to fill in the sample. • Export CSV (plates, samples, every colony, zones), annotated photos, full backups, and training data for your own models. PRIVATE AND OFFLINE Counting runs on your phone. No account, no ads, no tracking, and no internet access. Your photos and results stay on your device unless you export them. Thai and English. Light and dark themes. Free and open source (GNU AGPL-3.0). Reads Neogen® Petrifilm® plates. Petrifilm and Neogen are trademarks of Neogen Corporation; this app is not made or endorsed by Neogen. Intended use: for research and teaching. Colony Counter is not a medical or diagnostic device. Always check the automatic count.
