- Saved servers and resume positions now live in a database instead of preference files; nothing changes in use - Backup and device transfer carry the database and settings - Note: the server list and resume positions from 1.1.0 are not carried over. The list rebuilds on the next search
Play video and music from your home DLNA/UPnP server on your phone or tablet.
Living Player plays the video and music on your home DLNA/UPnP media server (Serviio, MinimServer, Jellyfin, the server built into your NAS, and others) on an Android phone or tablet. It finds servers on the same Wi-Fi by itself, shows the folders the server already organised (albums, artists, recently added, the folder tree), and plays a file with one tap. There is nothing to configure and nothing to set up on the server. VIDEO • Files your device can decode are played as they are, with no transcoding, so nothing is lost in picture or sound • When the server also offers a transcoded version, the list says "n versions" and you can switch between the original and the transcode during playback • External subtitles published by the server (SRT / WebVTT / ASS / TTML) load automatically; the CC button turns them off • A video you stopped part-way resumes where you left it • Choose whether the screen turns to landscape for video; a button rotates it during playback either way • If the device has no decoder for the audio track (AC-3, for example), the player says so instead of leaving you with silence MUSIC • Tap a track in an album or playlist and the whole folder becomes the queue • A now-playing screen with artwork, seek bar, shuffle, repeat and the queue • Cover art embedded in the file is preferred over the server's small thumbnail, so it stays sharp • Playback continues in the background, with controls in the notification, on the lock screen and on headset buttons • Pauses for phone calls and stops when headphones are unplugged EVERYDAY DETAILS • Long-press a row to read a long file name in full • Big folders load 100 entries at a time, so a folder of hundreds of tracks opens without waiting • A draggable scrollbar on every list • Light, dark, or follow-the-system theme • English and Japanese REQUIREMENTS • A DLNA/UPnP media server (one with a ContentDirectory service) on the same network • Android 7.0 or later NOT SUPPORTED • Content protected with DTCP-IP (recordings on a broadcast recorder) cannot be played; it is shown with a lock icon • The app is a player only; it does not serve files from the device to other players No ads. No data collection. The only thing the app talks to is your own server on your own network.
