The free version pretty, but useless. The first three genera I looked at, each contained only one species of the many that occur in rsa and I do have the location correct. Not giving me confidence to pay any money for an upgrade.

I have a Samsung S24 and have been trying to use the app for the past two weeks and it continues to crash. Would really like to buy the paid version but won't do so until I know the app won't crash. This app would then be so convenient for field work instead of carrying a book around

Hi Naquita, the latest Android device software is causing the app to crash due to compatibility issues. We are urgently working to fix the compatibility issue and will release a new update as soon as possible.
Not as comprehensive as it seems. Lacks several really well known and interesting species, like for instance Olea capensis. Often does not produce result for species searched by their locally known names. The app tends to crash and then remain unusable until reinstallation (Samsung Galaxy S9).

Hi PS, we are sorry that you experienced issues. Our app contains 1000+ indigenous trees including 3 subsp. of Olea capensis. We tried to include all acknowledged common names in 11 SA languages. App size for offline functionality and platform compatibility requirements can hamper older phones. Contact us at ask@thetreeapp.co.za for assistance.

An absolute must to have in the field of you can't carry your printed field guide with you.
Don't trust them. They changed from a perpetual license that I paid for to a subscription without notice.

Konrad, your perpetual license would still be available, so no need to change to subscription if you purchased the once-off app. You should still have full access to the app without interruption. Please contact us at ask@thetreeapp.co.za and we will assist to make sure you are up and running.
