Row counter on your chart, plus yarn stash tracking. Buy once, no subscription.
RowNest puts your row counter directly on your knitting chart instead of a separate app you have to glance away to. Tap to count and a ruler moves exactly one row on the PDF chart itself, so you always know precisely where you are on the pattern - not just what number you're on.
THE CHART IS THE APP
Load your pattern PDF and a row ruler sits on top of it, tracking your position at the point level, not the page level. Long-press anywhere on the chart to drop a highlighter mark, tap an existing mark to remove it - a way to flag a tricky stitch or a place you left off without redrawing the whole chart. Counters come in three types: a simple counter, a repeat counter with a strong haptic buzz when you hit the repeat length, and a linked counter that advances together with a parent. One-step undo restores both the count and the ruler position together, so a slip of the thumb never leaves your chart and your count out of sync.
TIME, STREAKS, AND WHEN YOU'LL ACTUALLY FINISH
Opening a project starts a session timer automatically and pauses it the moment you background the app - sessions under a minute are discarded so a stray tap in your pocket never counts as knitting time. Set a target row count and a progress bar appears with a live completion estimate, though it stays hidden until you've logged at least 30 minutes and 20 rows, because an estimate built on your first five minutes would just be a guess dressed up as a number. A real calendar view - not a GitHub-style heat grid - shows which days you worked and how long, so you can see your actual knitting rhythm over weeks and months.
YARN STASH, BUILT AROUND ONE HONEST IDEA
Most yarn inventory apps just list what you own. RowNest's stash connects to your patterns: log what you have, and it tells you whether you have enough yardage for a project - including the dye lot warning that matters most. Mixing dye lots means visible streaking in a finished piece even when the total yardage adds up, and that's the real reason knitters track stash in the first place. An unweighed skein reads as "unmeasured," never silently treated as zero, and an unopened skein is assumed full unless you say otherwise - the app never pretends to know more than you've told it.
EXPORT AND BACKUP - NEVER LOCKED
Back up your whole library - patterns, marks, counters, photos, and stash - to a single zip file, any time, on the starting tier. This is not a Pro feature and never will be. Starter patterns (a dishcloth, a scarf, and a beanie) are bundled in so you can try the chart-and-counter workflow before loading your own PDF.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Is this a subscription?
A: No. Pro is a single one-time purchase, never a recurring charge - and there's no subscription tier at any price.
Q: Can I export or back up my projects without upgrading?
A: Yes, fully. Export and backup are never limited or paywalled, on any tier, because losing years of pattern notes to a locked feature is exactly what we built this app to avoid.
Q: What does RowNest Pro add?
A: Pro unlocks automatic yarn-to-pattern matching in your stash (do I have enough for this?) plus dye lot warnings, and lifts the project cap so you can work on as many projects as you want.
Q: Does RowNest need an internet connection?
A: No. Charts, counters, stash, and your work calendar all run offline. Only optional legal pages use a webview.
Q: If I stop using Pro features, do I lose my existing patterns or projects?
A: No. Turning Pro off only blocks creating new patterns or counters beyond what's already there - it never deletes, hides, or locks anything you've already built.
