Lawn size by zone, bags to buy, a feeding calendar with reminders, a spread log.
Most lawns are not one rectangle. There is the front yard, the back yard, the strip along the side, a house and a driveway in the middle. Each part needs its own number of bags, its own watering time, and a nudge when it is time to feed. Lawn Calc keeps all of that in one place.
▬ YOUR LAWN, ZONE BY ZONE
• Trace each zone on the satellite photo, from the couch: front yard, back yard, side yard.
• Draw the house, the driveway and the patio as holes. They come out of the square footage.
• Already know a size? Type it in. Prefer to walk the edge? The GPS walk is in the lawn plan's menu.
• The total for the whole lawn, in square feet or acres, or in square meters.
• See the date of the satellite photo, and switch to an older year when trees hide the edge.
▬ A FEEDING CALENDAR THAT REMINDS YOU
• Start from a typical five-step program: crabgrass preventer, early spring feeding, weed and feed, grub control, fall feeding.
• Change every date, every product, every rate. Add your own steps.
• A reminder on the morning of each step, with the product, the number of bags and your spreader setting.
• A step whose date has already passed this year starts next year.
▬ HOW MANY BAGS
• Copy the rate from your bag, in lb per 1,000 sq ft, and the bag size.
• Each zone gets its pounds; the bags are counted on the whole lawn: a bag opened in front is finished in back.
• Give one zone its own rate, for shade or overseeding.
• Grass seed, lime, sod rolls and topdressing in the Quantities screen, with your prices if you want a total.
• The presets are common label rates, not recommendations. The app never tells you which product to buy.
▬ HOW LONG TO WATER
• Enter your sprinkler's precipitation rate in inches per hour, or its flow in gallons per minute.
• Choose the water you want each week, 1 inch by default, rain included, and how many times you water.
• Each zone gets its minutes per watering.
• Do not know the rate? The app explains the can test: a few cans on the lawn, 15 minutes, average depth times 4.
▬ A LOG OF WHAT YOU SPREAD
• Tap “I spread it”, or Done on the reminder: product, zones and pounds are already filled in.
• Or note anything by hand: date, zones, product, quantity, a comment.
• The applications of the year and the pounds spread, for the whole lawn or one zone.
• The year's totals by product and by zone.
▬ HONEST NUMBERS
• A drawing is as good as the photo under it, and a GPS walk shows its margin as a ± figure. Right for buying bags, not a property survey.
• Export a PDF with the lawn drawn to scale and the quantities, or share it as an image.
▬ NO ACCOUNT, NO SUBSCRIPTION
• Nothing to sign up for.
• A single purchase removes the ads for good.
• Your zones, calendar and log stay on your phone. A backup is a file you keep.
