Pips count the distance your checkers still need to move.
Backgammon: Pips & Odds Pips count the distance your checkers still need to move. A lone checker shows how many of 36 rolls can hit it. We count all 36 possible rolls and every legal opponent play on the current board. Empty-board tables can differ: blocked landing points stop indirect hits. These percentages describe one roll, not the rest of the game. A visible seed and roll index reproduce the same dice. We count observed and expected results for all 21 combinations. The opponent never sees future rolls; difficulty changes position judgement, never dice. Counts help inspect fairness, not explain a loss. Small samples can be uneven; hundreds of rolls are needed to settle. In a pure race, pip counts estimate winning chances and guide doubling. While contact remains, this game does not advise on the cube: it does not run the rollouts needed for reliable advice. The engine chooses from legal plays. It is not a neural network or world class. Levels change how it values exposed checkers and how far it plans ahead. Standard rules: doubling cube, gammons, backgammons and Crawford in match play. Use both dice when legal, or the larger die if only one can be used. Gameplay runs on your phone without an account or connection. Optional feedback and privacy links use the internet. No coins, chips or purchases. Playing does not depend on a balance.
