PocketRates is a currency converter that also reads the price in front of you. Point Price Lens at a price tag, a menu or a receipt, and it shows the amount in your home currency. Then it checks what your card or the payment terminal wants to charge against an independent reference rate, so you see the markup before you tap Pay. PRICE LENS AND CARD MARKUP CHECK • Camera currency converter: Price Lens reads prices on price tags, menus and receipts on your device. Tap a detected price to see it in your currency. • True Cost: enter the local price, the amount you are charged and any bank fee you know. The app shows the extra cost as an amount and as a percentage, with a plain verdict. • Terminal prompt explained: when a terminal offers to charge you in your home currency (dynamic currency conversion), True Cost reminds you to pick the local one. • Ambiguous symbols: a $ or a ¥ is never guessed silently. You confirm the country first. CONVERTER FOR THE WHOLE TRIP • 160+ currencies, 8 cryptocurrencies and 4 precious metals. • Calculator expressions in the amount field, and several currencies side by side. • Rate history charts and rate alerts that check periodically and notify you when a pair reaches your target. • Trip expense ledger: log what you spend abroad, see the total in your home currency, export it to CSV and share a Trip Wrapped recap. • Your own rate: type the rate your exchange office or card actually gave you. RATES WITH A DATE Currency rates are daily reference rates from Frankfurter. The app shows the provider and the date next to every rate instead of a "live" badge. Saved rates keep working without a connection, so the converter works on a plane or without roaming. Crypto rates refresh separately and may be missing offline. FREE AND PRO Converting is free and needs no account. The free version shows ads, and Price Lens has a scan limit that a rewarded ad lifts for one hour. Pro is a single purchase, not a subscription: it removes ads and raises the limits, with 5 years of history, custom rates, unlimited scans, unlimited alerts and unlimited trips. FAQ Does the exchange rate calculator work offline? Yes, on the last saved rates. The date of those rates is always on screen. How do I check a foreign transaction fee? Open True Cost, enter the price and the charged amount, add the fee if you know it, and read the difference. Is this my bank's rate? No. It is an independent reference rate to compare your card's rate against. Does Price Lens upload my photos? No, text recognition runs on your device. Is Pro a subscription? No, you pay once. The comparison is informational. Your card issuer may settle at a later date's rate or add charges that PocketRates cannot know in advance. Handy at a market stall in Bangkok or a restaurant in Lisbon, when the receipt says one amount and the terminal asks for another.
