Say or type any Qur’an word: its root, meaning and grammar, jamid or mushtaq
Say any word of the Qur'an out loud — or type it in English letters (or Arabic) and find it: what it means, how it is built, the ayah it lives in, then hear it read back in Arabic. Everything is on your phone: no internet, no ads, no tracking, no permissions. A humble request from the author: if this app helps you understand the Qur'an, please leave a rating. It is the work of one person, and ratings are what let other students find it. FIND A WORD BY ITS SOUND Press the microphone and say the word the way it is recited. The search does not look for exact letters: it reduces what you said to its sounds and ranks all 18,993 words of the Qur'an by how near they come. The article ٱل is optional, vowel marks never matter, and a near miss still finds the word. HEAR IT SPOKEN Every Arabic word can be heard. Tap one anywhere — a particle, a rigid noun, a headword or pattern in the root tables, the word at the top of its page — and it is pronounced in full, ending and all, in your phone's own Arabic voice. In a Qur'anic example, tap one word to hear it alone, or the meanings underneath to hear the whole passage read as one phrase. Voice search answers in voice too: it says what it heard and repeats the word in Arabic. TYPE IT AS IT SOUNDS No Arabic keyboard needed. Type hamd, layl, or dhul-qarnain and the word appears. A built-in letter guide shows how to write each Arabic letter in English, and letters that share a sound share a spelling — s finds both س and ص. EVERY WORD, EXPLAINED Each of the 18,993 distinct words carries: • its meaning as the Qur'an actually uses it, from the word-by-word renderings • the dictionary sense, when it adds something • its grammar in plain words — "perfect verb, Form IV, 3rd person masculine plural" • the particles and pronouns attached to it, each explained • a Qur'anic example with the words around it and their meanings • every place it occurs, with the surrounding words a tap away • the other words built on the same root, one tap from its full tables ALL 86 PARTICLES Every حرف the Qur'an uses, grouped as the grammarians group them — prepositions, conjunctions, particles of negation, condition, question, emphasis, answer and more — each with all the meanings it can carry. Pronouns, pointing words and question words are listed beside them. WORDS THAT SOUND ALIKE 1,216 sets of Qur'anic words a listener could take for one another: same letters read with different vowels, and different letters that make nearly the same sound. Every set says which letters tell its members apart. THE FULL ROOT TABLES A complete صرف reference: all 941 verb roots, form by form (I to X), one table per form — perfect, imperfect, imperative, verbal nouns, participles and derived nouns, each marked Qur'anic or dictionary. Every occurrence is shown inside its ayah. And the 188 rigid nouns — the Qur'an's nouns that come from no verb at all — each with the part of the ayah its meaning came from. THE WHOLE QUR'AN IN ENGLISH — FREE Read the whole Qur'an in English like a book — the translation of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and Prof. Farida Khanam, with English surah names and a contents page — or press play and hear it read aloud, calmly, verse by verse, in the voice you choose. Offline. Free for everyone, with or without Pro. HOW IT WAS BUILT Grammar and roots follow the Quranic Arabic Corpus morphology, the word-by-word renderings its translation data, and dictionary senses Wiktionary, checked against the Qur'an's own renderings. WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO It shows no advertisements and collects nothing. It is the work of one person who wanted to look up the words he heard recited. Your first three word lookups open the whole app, voice search included. After that, typing a search, the particles and the English Qur'an stay free, and one payment, Quran Words Pro, opens the rest for good. No subscription. If a word or a meaning looks wrong, email me: corrections are checked against the sources and shipped.
