AR star map: point at the sky to identify stars, constellations and planets
Point your phone at the night sky and see the names of the stars, constellations, planets and satellites in front of you. Switch to the AR camera view, turn a classic planisphere, check what's up tonight and follow meteor showers and eclipses. All star and city data are built in, so it works offline. ■ Main features • Point and identify: the chart follows your phone, even without a gyroscope, and the object in the center crosshair is named. Calibration help and one-tap alignment on a bright star keep it accurate. • AR camera: the chart is laid over the live camera image and matched to its field of view, so the stars line up. Video is never saved or sent. • Constellations: lines, names (English, Latin or IAU abbreviation), boundaries, artwork for 85 constellations, asterisms such as the Big Dipper, and the Milky Way. • Tap for details: brightness, rise and set times, distance and coordinates, plus written guides to the planets, all 88 constellations, bright stars and famous deep-sky objects. • Stars and deep sky: over 100,000 stars to magnitude 9 in true color, and about 400 nebulae, clusters and galaxies including the Messier objects. • Moon, planets and comets: the Moon in its current phase, bright comets with their tails, and up close, Saturn's rings and Jupiter's moons. • Search: look up any object by name or number (M42, NGC 7000, α Ori), satellites included. An arrow guides you to targets off screen. • Tonight: Moon phase, dark hours, visible planets, ISS passes and this week's events on one screen. • Sky calendar: Moon phases, supermoons, equinoxes and solstices, conjunctions, the peaks of 13 meteor showers such as the Perseids, and eclipses with local times. • Planisphere: turn the star wheel to set the time, indoors and without sensors. • Time travel: any date within ±100 years, stepped or animated. • ISS passes and alerts: visible passes of the ISS and China's Tiangong three days ahead, plus alerts for meteor showers, eclipses and supermoons, even with the app closed. • Night mode and widget: red main screens protect your night vision, and a home-screen widget shows tonight's sky. • Location: your approximate position, about 34,000 cities, or latitude and longitude. ■ Great for • Learning constellations and bright stars • Catching meteor showers, eclipses and ISS passes • Stargazing with kids • Finding deep-sky objects with binoculars or a telescope ■ Premium (one-time purchase) One in-app purchase unlocks all of the following. It is not a subscription. • About 2.5 million Tycho-2 stars (to magnitude 12.5) • About 12,000 NGC/IC nebulae, clusters and galaxies • Time travel from the year 1000 to 3000, and the calendar for any year • About 170 satellites, with pass alerts for the ones you choose • Faint comets and asteroids • Observing lists, a planner for tonight's deep-sky targets, and an observing log with CSV export • Field-of-view circles for eyepieces, binoculars, cameras and Telrad • Wi-Fi telescope control for LX200 and NexStar compatible mounts (GoTo and sync, with a solar filter warning) • Altitude graph, angular distance and coordinate grids • Top-down view of the solar system • Rise alerts for any object, and quiet hours • Saved locations, color themes, and transparent and Moon phase widgets ■ Location and privacy Only your approximate location is used. Without it, you can pick a city or enter coordinates. Your location, camera image and observing log are never sent anywhere. The network is used only to refresh satellite and comet orbits, and automatic updates can be turned off. Favorites, logs and settings move to a new phone with Android backup. ■ Data sources Stars: Hipparcos, Tycho-2. Deep sky: OpenNGC. Planets: VSOP87. Milky Way: ESO/S. Brunier. Constellation art: Stellarium. Satellites: CelesTrak. Comets: IAU Minor Planet Center. Cities: GeoNames. Available in 40 languages. Requires Android 8.0 or later.
