Learn the Greek alphabet in a quick quiz: see a letter, pick its name from four
This app helps you learn the Greek alphabet by naming the letters, one after another, until you stop hesitating. Each game runs through all 24 Greek letters in random order. A whole game takes a couple of minutes. Every question shows the capital and the lowercase together, like Θ θ or Ξ ξ, so you learn both shapes at once. You get four names to choose from, and one of them is right. A right answer is worth 100 points. On top of that, a time bonus starts near 100 and drains to zero over five seconds, so quick answers score more. There's no hard time limit, though. Take as long as you need and you only lose the bonus. Pick the wrong name and it turns red while the right one lights up green, so even a miss shows you the answer. After a short pause the next letter comes up. WHAT ELSE IS IN THE APP • After each game, a review screen with your total score, how many of the 24 you got right, and every letter next to the name you picked • A score list with every game you've played, highest score first. Tap one to go through its answers again, or delete it. • The whole Greek alphabet on one screen, Alpha to Omega, with the capital, lowercase and name of each letter • Portrait and landscape WHO IT'S FOR A lot of people meet Greek letters in math, physics, statistics or engineering long before they meet the Greek language. This quiz gets you to the point where you can tell ξ (xi) from ζ (zeta) without looking it up. It's also a sensible first step if you're about to learn Greek, modern or biblical, because you need the Greek alphabet before anything else. And if you've just joined a fraternity or sorority and have to know your letters by heart, it's a quick way to drill them. The usual troublemakers are the ones that look like Latin letters: ν is nu (not v), η is eta, ρ is rho and χ is chi. The review screen after each game shows which ones you keep missing. PRICE AND ADS The app is free, with one banner ad at the bottom of the screen and no in app purchases. The banner has its own fixed space, so it never pushes the answer buttons around while you're tapping. The quiz works without an internet connection (the ad only loads when you're online), and there's no account to create. Your games are saved on your phone. It runs on Android 6.0 and newer, and the app is in English. If something looks wrong or you have an idea for the quiz, email me at filipnordquist@protonmail.com.
