• Direct dial shortcuts on the home screen now open the dialer with the number filled in, instead of failing. Shortcuts already on the home screen are repaired automatically. • Long-pressing the app icon offers shortcuts to starred and frequently contacted people. • Contact shortcuts on the home screen follow renames and photo changes, and are disabled when the contact is deleted. • On Android 15 and later, the status bar now matches the screen behind it while selecting or viewing a contact.
Autonomous Offline Secure People Contacts
Offline Contacts is an address book that manages the contacts stored on the device, with no account, no sign-in, and no server. The app does not request the Internet permission, so it has no way to send contact data over a network. Managing contacts • Browse, search, create, edit, delete, and link contacts • Labels for grouping contacts • A duplicate finder that groups contacts sharing a phone number or email address and joins the selected sets after confirmation • Import and export of vCard (.vcf) files • A contact picker for other apps • An optional phone number under each name in the contact list Home screen shortcuts • Contact, Direct dial, and Direct message shortcuts that can be added to the home screen • Contact shortcuts that follow renames and photo changes, and are disabled when the contact is deleted • Launcher shortcuts for starred and frequently contacted people, available by long-pressing the app icon Appearance and languages • System default, light, and dark themes • A generated colour for each contact without a photo • Available in 74 languages; the app lock, duplicate finder, permission prompts, and several settings and messages are in English only Privacy and security The app contains no advertising, analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting, and an optional app lock requires the device screen lock or biometrics before contacts are shown. Android backup and device-to-device transfer are disabled, so the system does not copy the app's files off the device. Contacts saved to an account that synchronises are synchronised by that account's provider, not by this app. The privacy policy and the list of open-source components are included in the app under Settings, About Contacts, and can be read without a network connection. Local backups Automatic backups are off until turned on, and run daily or weekly while the device is charging. Each backup is a vCard file written to storage that only this app can read, and the five most recent are kept. Nothing is uploaded; a copy elsewhere requires a manual export. Permissions and their purpose • Read and write contacts: shows, creates, edits, links, and deletes the contacts stored on the device, and shows which account each one belongs to • Notifications: reports the progress and result of a vCard import or export, and is requested only when one starts • Foreground service and its data-sync type: keeps a started vCard import or export running until it completes • Hide overlay windows: prevents other apps from drawing over the contact editor, the contact picker, and the import screens while they are in use • Use biometric: shows the system prompt for the optional app lock Seven permissions in total, plus one private permission added by the build to protect the app's internal broadcasts, which grants nothing to any other app. This app does not request internet, network state, phone, call log, SMS, accounts, sync settings, wake lock, location, camera, microphone, or storage access.
