Viking Chess is Hnefatafl (say NEF-ah-tah-ful), "the king's table": the board game of the Viking age. A king sits on his throne with a handful of defenders. Around the rim wait twice as many attackers. One side must get the king out. The other must take him.
Play both sides: guard the king as the defenders, or hunt him down as the attackers, one puzzle at a time. Never played? A short welcome and three guided puzzles teach you the whole game one tap at a time.
Journey through the ten realms of Norse myth, from the sunset fjords of Midgard to the golden hall of Valhalla. Every realm has its own painted world, its own board, and its own lesson: hammer-and-anvil captures, the hostile empty throne, corner escapes, sacrifices, the king hunt, the shieldwall, and tempo. At the end of each realm a named rival waits across the board, and in Valhalla the champion of the slain never blunders.
