Voice Memo is a simple voice recorder for ideas, meetings, lectures and reminders. Tap the mic to record, pause when you need to, then save with a title and notes. Your recordings are kept on your phone. There is no account and nothing to sign up for.
RECORDING
- One tap to record, with a timer and a live level meter
- Pause and resume within the same recording
- Keeps recording with the screen off or while you use other apps. A notification shows the time with Pause, Resume and Stop & save buttons
- If Android closes the app in the middle of a recording, the audio recorded so far is kept and appears as "Recovered recording" the next time you open Voice Memo
- Three quality settings: Standard (AAC 128 kbps, about 1 MB a minute), Small (AAC 64 kbps, about half that, fine for speech) and Lossless (WAV 16-bit, about 5 MB a minute)
PLAYBACK
- A scrub bar: drag or tap to jump to any point
- Skip back or forward 10 seconds
- Speed 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x, with the voice at its normal pitch
- Keeps playing with the screen off or in another app, with play, pause and skip controls in the notification
ORGANIZE
- Search the titles and notes of all your recordings
- Sort by newest, oldest, longest or name. Your choice is remembered
- Rename from the list (long-press or the menu) or on the details screen
- Add notes to any recording
- Each recording shows its length, size and format (M4A or WAV)
SHARE AND SAVE
- Share a recording to another app, such as a messaging, email or cloud storage app, as an M4A or WAV file named after its title
- Save to: choose a folder with Android's file picker, for example Downloads, to keep a copy outside the app
RECENTLY DELETED
Deleted recordings stay in Recently deleted for 30 days. Restore them, delete them for good, or empty the bin at any time.
YOUR RECORDINGS AND YOUR PRIVACY
- The microphone is used only while you record. While a recording runs, Voice Memo shows a recording notification (if you allow notifications), even when the screen is off
- Recordings are stored in the app's private storage on your phone. Voice Memo never uploads your audio. A recording leaves your phone only when you share it or save it somewhere yourself
- New phone: Android's phone-to-phone transfer brings your recordings with it. Google's cloud backup, if you have it turned on, keeps your list of titles and notes but not the audio
- Uninstalling Voice Memo deletes the recordings stored in it, so share or save any you want to keep first
- Notification permission is asked the first time you record. Recording works without it
FREE, WITH ONE BANNER AD
Voice Memo is free and shows a banner ad on the recordings list. Voice Memo Pro, a one-time in-app purchase, removes the ad. Recording, playback and every other feature stay free, with or without Pro. No subscription.
WHAT WORKS OFFLINE
Recording, playback, search and everything you do with your recordings work without an internet connection. Only the banner ad and Google Play (for the Pro purchase) use the internet.
