Earthquake Tracker: Quake Feed helps you follow the places that matter and understand the timing of received earthquake notifications. Set a radius and minimum magnitude for each watch place, then explore the feed with recorded timestamps and measured delivery gaps.
▶ WATCH PLACES THAT MATTER
• Keep up to 5 named watch places, such as home, a family city or a coastal town.
• Give each place its own radius from 50–1000 km and minimum magnitude: M2.5, M3, M4, M5 or M6.
• Tap the map to choose coordinates, enter latitude and longitude, or use the optional Use my location button.
• Edit a place as plans change. Remove a watch place with confirmation and use Undo to bring it back.
▶ SEE THE TIMING OF RECEIVED ALERTS
• Event details show Origin time and Last updated by USGS. Received alerts can also show First seen by Quake Feed, Server sent and Received on this phone.
• See measured gaps between the event, first sighting, sending and receipt when the timestamps are available. An agency update may be a later revision, rather than the first report.
• Settings shows the median event-to-receipt delay and a bar chart for up to 20 recent distinct received alerts. The feed also shows the last alert received and the measured median.
▶ EXPLORE ONE MAP AND LIST
• Switch between Near your places and Worldwide. The map, event list and result count use the same selection.
• Filter by watch place, magnitude range, depth range and the past 1–24 hours. Near your places focuses the map around the selected watch place.
• Open Event details to see magnitude, depth and distance from your watch places. Follow the USGS event page or Did you feel it? link for more context.
▶ QUIET HOURS AND WATCH PLACE BACKUPS
• Set quiet hours using your phone’s local time. Matching M6+ events within a watch radius can sound during quiet hours; other high-priority alerts may appear silently, including outside your watch filters.
• Back up watch places, quiet hours and deletion records as JSON parts with a manifest. Keep the manifest and every part together when restoring.
• Restore merges saved revisions and deletion records. A restore that would exceed 5 watch places is rejected without changing the saved watch data.
▶ GOOD TO KNOW
• The feed uses USGS events from the past 24 hours. The feed depends on events available from its source; a low magnitude setting does not ensure every local quake is listed. Refreshing needs a connection; the last successful refresh remains visible during a failed refresh in the current session.
• Notifications are post-event and depend on permission and the notification service. Delivery may be delayed or missed. Events first seen more than 24 hours after they occur are skipped for notifications. Use this feed for post-event information.
• Foreground refreshes have origin and update times; receipt timestamps and delay measurements need received alerts. These measurements describe recorded event and delivery times.
• Exact coordinates and place names are stored in the app. Approximate watch areas are shared through notification topic subscriptions. Usage, diagnostic and advertising data may be processed by service providers.
