Pared-back, softly rounded icons for your home screen, made your way.
Minimal Icon Changer lets you make your own icons for the apps on your home screen, one at a time. You can use a photo, a color with a minimal line symbol or letter, or the app's own icon in a single color of your choice.
If you like a home screen that is minimal but not cold — only a few colors, quiet space, rounded shapes and a soft touch (what the French call "épure douce") — this app may suit you. The app itself follows the same idea: few features, gentle shapes, and only what is needed.
🖼️ What you can make
- Photo icons: choose a photo with the system photo picker, then drag and pinch to frame it.
- Color + symbol icons: pick a background color and a symbol color (monochrome tones and a salmon pink, or a custom color of your own), then choose one of 33 original line symbols with rounded ends or the first letter of the app's name.
- Recolored icons: keep the shape of the app's own icon and change only its color.
- Labels: edit the name shown under the icon, or hide it.
📱 How to use
1. Open the app and tap the app you want to make an icon for.
2. Choose Photo, Color + symbol, or Recolor, and adjust the look. The preview shows exactly what will be placed.
3. Choose how to place it:
– No badge: placed as a small widget. Nothing is added to the corner, but it can't go into folders.
– Folder OK: placed as a shortcut. It can go into folders, but Android adds a small badge to the corner. This is how Android shows shortcuts, and the app can't turn it off.
4. Confirm in the dialog shown by your home screen app.
5. If you like, long-press the original icon on your home screen and choose Remove (not Uninstall).
The icons you make are kept in the app. Open one, change it, and tap Update to refresh every copy already on your home screen.
Good to know
- The original app is not changed. The new icon is simply another way to open it.
- Notification dots don't appear on custom icons.
- Some home screen apps can't add icons automatically. In that case, add it by hand: long-press the home screen → Widgets → Minimal Icon Changer, then choose your icon.
- Apps in a work profile are not listed.
- How icons look and behave can differ by device and home screen app.
🔒 Privacy and offline use
- Works offline. The app doesn't use the internet.
- No ads, no account, no sign-up.
- The list of apps is read on your device only. Photos are chosen through the system photo picker, made smaller, and saved encrypted on your device. Nothing is sent to the developer.
- Your icons are not included in cloud backups. If you uninstall the app or change phones, they are removed.
Support
All features are free to use. If you'd like to support development, there are optional Coffee-, Lunch-, and Dinner-sized Support items. They don't unlock anything.
The symbols in this app are original designs. Minimal Icon Changer is not affiliated with the developers of the apps you make icons for. App names and icons belong to their respective owners.
