• The “Next” tab now opens with a “Tonight” card: whether a meteor shower is active tonight and its estimated hourly rate, the same figure as the “Tonight” tab. With a live cloud forecast, tonight’s sky is added. • A full-screen ad on a tab change now appears at your tap, before the next tab opens. No app-open ad after permission prompts, Settings, the store page or sharing; location is requested after the launch screen.
Meteor shower calendar with peak countdowns, moon conditions and cloud cover
Meteor shower calendar planning starts with the next peak and tonight’s sky. Compare upcoming meteor showers, a peak countdown, moon interference and cloud-cover forecasts before choosing an evening to look for shooting stars. Use it to prepare a stargazing session or a meteor photography outing with realistic expectations. PLAN AHEAD, THEN CHECK TONIGHT See annual showers ordered by their upcoming peak and review their activity dates. The countdown breaks the time to a nominal peak into days, hours and minutes. A nighttime timeline puts radiant altitude and the estimated rate in context. For a near-term outing, check which cataloged showers are active tonight rather than treating the next peak as tonight’s activity. READ THE NUMBERS IN CONTEXT Peak ZHR is a theoretical hourly maximum under ideal dark skies, not the number you are promised to see. The app estimates visible rates using the radiant’s position and moon interference; the hourly model also uses cloud cover when available. Review the moon’s illuminated fraction, the estimated viewing hour and the changing hourly curve together. Radiant information includes coordinates, parent body and entry speed for background reading. CLOUDS AND YOUR LOCATION Allow foreground location access for calculations based on your latitude and longitude. Local cloud percentages and sunrise/sunset information come from Open-Meteo over the internet; locality names use a reverse-geocoding service. If location is unavailable, sky calculations use a default at 35° north and 0° longitude. If cloud retrieval fails, labeled sample data may be shown. Sample clouds describe neither your location nor actual conditions overhead. OPTIONAL PEAK REMINDERS Opt in to local peak-evening reminders and grant notification permission if you want a prompt to revisit the calendar. Reminders follow the app’s nominal schedule; they do not announce a meteor detection or confirm clear weather. WHAT THIS CALENDAR CAN AND CANNOT TELL YOU The built-in shower catalog uses long-term average dates and rates, not a live ephemeris or a complete list of minor showers. Actual peaks, outbursts, visibility and weather can differ. Forecast clouds are model estimates, so check the sky and local conditions before setting out. The app does not use a camera to find individual meteors or guarantee a sighting. It contains advertising, rewarded access to some features, Firebase Analytics and network services for ads and configuration.
