Type a word or phrase and tap Listen to hear it in your phone's voice, from 0.5x to 1.2x speed. Then tap Say it: each word is marked heard as written, heard differently or not heard. Keep favorites in My Phrases, and look back at past attempts in History.
Pronunciation practice: hear a phrase, say it, see what your phone heard
Pronunciation practice for the words and phrases you actually need: type it, hear it, say it, and see what your phone heard. Say It Right puts your phrase and the recognizer's transcript side by side, word by word. ▶ HEAR IT FIRST • Type or paste a word or phrase (up to 300 characters) and tap Listen to hear it in your phone's own text-to-speech voice. • Slow it down or speed it up from 0.5× to 1.2×, in 0.1 steps. • Tap any word to hear just that word. In Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other scripts written without spaces, tap a character. • Pick the voice you like for each language when your phone has more than one. ▶ SAY IT, SEE WHAT WAS HEARD • Tap Say it and speak. The phone's speech recognizer writes down what it heard, in the language you are practicing. • Your phrase turns into coloured chips: heard as written, heard differently (with the word that was heard instead), not heard, and words heard in addition. • A summary such as "5 of 6 words heard as written", or "Transcript matches" when everything lines up. • Capitals and punctuation are ignored when your attempt is compared. ▶ HEAR YOURSELF • Play your recording, the reference voice, or an A/B loop that alternates the two four times. • See your recording as a waveform. • No speech recognition for a language on your phone? Record still works, so you can listen and compare by ear. ▶ YOUR PHRASES AND HISTORY • Save phrases to My Phrases and sort them with lists and tags: up to 2,000 phrases, 100 lists and 8 tags per phrase. • History keeps your last 500 attempts with what was heard and, where available, your recording. • Repeated mismatches gathers the words that were not recognized as written in 2 or more attempts. A word leaves the list once it is recognized as written twice in a row. • Export a backup file of your phrases, lists and history, and restore it by pasting it back in. Recordings are not part of the backup. ▶ LANGUAGES ON YOUR PHONE • Practice in the languages your phone can speak or recognize. • The Languages screen shows, for this phone, which languages have a voice (and how many) and the recognition state: on-device verified, online, unknown — try it, or not available. ▶ GOOD TO KNOW • Say It Right compares the recognizer's transcript with your phrase. It does not rate your pronunciation, and a matching transcript does not mean you sound like a native speaker. Recognizers can mishear or autocorrect. • Languages, voices and on-device recognition depend on your phone and can change with system updates. • When a language can only be recognized online, the app asks first, names the recognition service your phone uses, and sends audio only after you allow it. You can change this any time in Settings & privacy. • Some phones do not hand over a recording of recognized attempts; then only the transcript is kept for that attempt. • Phrases, history and recordings stay on this phone. No sign-in. • Ads appear on My Phrases and History, and sometimes after an attempt that matches or when you return to the app — never while the app is listening or recording.
