Calculate upholstery yardage from panels and roll width. Compare remnant plans.
Fabric Calculator: Cut Planner is a fabric yardage calculator for rectangular upholstery panels and roll width. Measure cushion fronts and backs, plan their placement and compare a new roll with your own remnants. Straight pattern repeats constrain the layout. See purchase length in yards or meters.
START WITH THE PIECES YOU NEED
Create a job with rectangular panels, quantities and seam allowances. Set the fabric width and use the supported length units: millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches or yards. The calculation starts from these dimensions; it does not estimate a whole sofa from a furniture name, photograph or ready-made upholstery template.
Changes to panel size, allowance, quantity or usable width can change the layout and purchase length. Review your measurements before treating the result as a shopping or cutting plan.
PLAN DIRECTION AND STRAIGHT REPEATS
Work with plain fabric or a straight, orthogonal repeating pattern. Set permitted orientations and respect nap, grain and direction when the material cannot be freely rotated. Use matching relationships and anchors to describe how selected panel edges should line up.
Source phase matters when you are trying to align a pattern on a remnant or new roll. The app distinguishes measured, assumed and unknown phase information. Unverified phase can leave a layout unresolved; a diagram cannot replace checking the actual fabric. Half-drop, diagonal and arbitrary pattern repeats are outside this planner's supported model.
COMPARE NEW FABRIC WITH OWNED REMNANTS
Compare an all-new-roll scenario with a scenario that combines your entered remnants and new fabric. Keep the remnants' dimensions and pattern information separate so the comparison reflects what you really have. See the proposed placements and any findings that need attention.
The search is bounded and may fail to find a workable layout even when another arrangement exists. It does not prove a globally optimal nesting or guaranteed saving. If using remnants does not produce a better supported result, the comparison can fall back to the new-roll scenario. An unresolved plan is shown as unresolved rather than presented as a verified saving.
CALCULATE WHAT TO PURCHASE
Convert the required layout length into a purchase quantity using your chosen buying increment. This makes the result useful when fabric is sold in fixed steps rather than arbitrary fractions. Keep required length, rounded purchase length and unused material distinct when you compare alternatives.
Enter a price if you want a cash comparison. Without a price, cost and monetary savings stay unknown. Savings require complete, priced scenarios. Owned remnant area is separate from new-roll offcut, so leftover fabric is not silently treated as a cash discount. Use one currency for a job; the app does not convert exchange rates.
SAVE A MAP FOR YOUR WORKROOM
Keep a saved cutting map and export it as PDF or SVG. Use the diagram to communicate the proposed placements and to review panel orientation and pattern alignment. A map is planning support, not a guaranteed safe cutting sequence. Check measurements, fabric condition and matching assumptions before making irreversible cuts.
WORK LOCALLY AND KEEP A COPY
Jobs are stored on your device and the planning workflow works offline. Back up a selected job, inspect the restore preview and choose whether to copy or replace it. The app follows supported device languages with English as the fallback; changing store language does not change your measurements or calculation rules.
Use this tool when the job is a set of measured rectangles and the important question is how much fabric to buy and whether your remnants help. It is not a garment-pattern designer, quilting layout library, industrial fabric-weight converter or automatic sofa estimator. The useful result is a clear comparison grounded in the dimensions, directions and matching rules you supply.
